2011: The company was established and awarded by Puerto Nuevo SA, local branch of Glencore, the operation of 4 tugboats, 2 pilot boats, mooring and pilot services for a period of 10 years. The newbuilding program started in SIMA Perú.

October 2013: RM Magdalena and RM Sierra Nevada, the first tugs of the fleet arrived to Cartagena.

Local permits were granted:

• Licencia de Explotación Comercial – October 2012 (DIMAR).
• Registro de Operador Portuario – December 2012 (MINTRANSPORTE).
• Provisional tug registry RM Magdalena y Sierra Nevada November 2013 (DIMAR).

December 2013: First maneuver in Santa Marta, Colombia; MN MIEDWIE and first maneuver in Puerto Nuevo, MN LADY BEGUM.

April 2014: Initiated contract with Glencore at Puerto Nuevo SA facilities.

October 2014: First special operation of international towage of the crane barge MESTRE JANOTA from Barranquilla to Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic.

September 2014: Started operations in Cartagena and Buenaventura by adding 1 owned tug (built 2000, 63 BP) and 3 long-term timer charters (GPC, built 2012, ASD tugs, 70 BP) operating 8 tugs in total covering 3 major Colombian ports.

January 2015: Coltugs obtained its first ISO9001; ISO14001 and OSHAS18001 certifications.

April 2015: Started operations in Barranquilla by adding 1 additional tug to the fleet (built 1999, 65 BP), reaching a total of 9 tugs. This was an important milestone as Coltugs was the first company to position an ASD tug at this port.

April 2016: Joint venture with Coremar Group under the name Coremar Coltugs Towage operating a fleet of 14 tugs and 1 crew boat covering all major Colombian ports.

2019: Newbuilt tug “Caño Cristales” arrived from Turkey. The most powerful and modern tug in Colombia.

2021: First female CEO, Silvia Herrera, took over the wheel.
